A Carrboro police officer made an unexpected rescue during last week’s snow storm.

Officer Tim Shine saved a great blue heron trapped in partially frozen Morgan Creek last Thursday along with help from his partner Officer E. Velasquez.

Carrboro Mayor Lydia Lavelle commended Shine for the rescue.

“Kudos to officer Shine,” said Lavelle. “Not your traditional cat in a tree.”

Shine, who has since been nicknamed the “wildlife whisperer,” took the heron to Claws, inc. afterwards for rehabilitation.
