Two weeks of closure at a popular splash pad in Pittsboro is expected to be extended, according to town officials.

The local government shared an update with residents on Saturday, saying issues with the “sprayground” at Knight Farm Community Park are still being identified.

Town staff were initially alerted to an issue on July 6, according to a spokesperson. Pittsboro then alerted the community about the splash pad’s closure on July 11, saying there were “equipment difficulties with the pump” at the site. On Saturday, it said in a release that is shares residents’ disappointment that the amenity is not up and running again.

“At present, our staff and contractors are diligently working to pinpoint the source of the maintenance issue that has kept the splash pad out of service,” the local government wrote. “While we are fully committed to resolving the problem and getting the facility back up and running as soon as possible, we, unfortunately, do not yet have a timeline for the reopening.”

Knight Farm Community Park is a 10-acre amenity in the Chatham Park neighborhood. Having first opened in 2021, the space has grown popular in part due to the sprayground, which offers several water features and fountains to help people cool off.

As the closure continues, the local government recommended interested community members follow the town’s Parks and Recreation Facebook page or sign up for Town News Alerts — both of which will have updates as they become available.

“We want to reassure our community that the safety and well-being of our residents are our top priorities,” said the Town of Pittsboro on Saturday. “We will not reopen the splash pad until we are confident that the issue has been thoroughly identified and resolved.”
