The North Carolina Department of Transportation will close Suttles Road in Pittsboro to thru-traffic beginning Tuesday, June 3. The closure will allow for the final stages of the road’s realignment and connection to the new Chatham Parkway, which will service the Chatham Park development.
According to the NCDOT and the Town of Pittsboro, the closure is expected to remain in effect through November, though weather conditions could allow for a faster reopening of the road.

Motorists who use Suttles Road are encouraged to plan alternate routes and follow posted detour signs while the road is closed. Barricades will be set up at the road’s intersection with Chatham Parkway, and signage will be posted at the western side of the closure near the intersection with Grant Drive. The Town of Pittsboro is coordinating with NCDOT to minimize disruptions to emergency services and Chatham County Schools.
Suttles Road currently stretches from Russet Run at its western end – near Northwood High School – to the Chatham Parkway Overpass at its eastern end, near Chatham Park. Most of the road runs parallel to U.S. Highway 64, north of downtown Pittsboro.
While the design and construction of much of the 7,000-acre master plan community is still underway, Chatham Park’s plans in the North Village are moving along. The mixed-use area MOSAIC has been up and running for several years, the Vineyards neighborhood south of U.S. 64 continues to put homes on the market, and construction on the NoVi neighborhood near the new YMCA and eastern side of Suttles Road is ongoing. The Triangle Business Journal also reported last week that construction for Asteria, the 4,000-unit Storyliving by Disney community, began its initial stages earlier in May. According to the development’s master plan, Suttles Road will be a key connector for the MOSAIC, NoVi and Encore by David Weekley Homes neighborhoods as well as a main corridor for a future campus in the Chatham County Schools district.
