Pittsboro resident Allen Wilson has announced his candidacy for the town’s Board of Commissioners. According to his campaign announcement, Wilson believes “Pittsboro’s success depends on the basics – safety, quality of life and stewardship. That is where the Board of Commissioners and town staff can make a positive impact.”
Wilson listed out several proposals in pursuit of his three goals. He hopes to install an “Adopt a Crosswalk” plan to increase intersection and pedestrian safety around Pittsboro. Wilson also said he wants to “promote Pittsboro as the town of choice for residents, businesses, employers and visitors,” and to work to support affordable housing in town.
Wilson expressed concern over the “potential vulnerability” of staffing in town government positions.
“As we grow and expanded services are needed,” Wilson said, “finding quality people to provide town services will be a challenge.”
With that in mind, Wilson’s campaign described the next four to five years as “critical” to the future of the town, with tasks such as building systems to accommodate growth and the implementation of a 311 system.
“I want to be a leader in securing Pittsboro’s future success,” said Wilson. “While campaigning for town commissioner, I’m also going to campaign for Pittsboro. That’s the real work to be done.”
Wilson is one of seven candidates vying for three open seats on the Board of Commissioners.
Early voting for the fall local government elections begins on Thursday, October 19, while Election Day is Tuesday, November 7.
