
The Christmas holiday on Monday, December 25 will affect several local government services around the community. Here’s a rundown of what residents can expect.
Town of Chapel Hill
Town of Chapel Hill government offices will be closed from Monday, December 25 through Wednesday, December 27.
Residential trash will not be collected from December 25-27. Monday collections will be done on Thursday, December 28, and Tuesday collections will be done on Friday, December 29. Yard trimmings will not be collected the entire week, with the typical schedule resuming the following week. Christmas trees will be collected, as long as all decorations are removed. Commercial trash will not be collected on December 25 or 26. Collections will be completed by the end of the week.
Curbside recycling will not be collected on Christmas Day. Recycling collections will be delayed by one day the week of December 24-30.
The Orange County Landfill will be closed on December 24 and 25. The Waste and Recycling Centers will be closed December 24, 25 and 27.
Chapel Hill Transit will not run on Christmas Day. Buses will run Sunday service on Tuesday, December 26, with no U or NU routes. From Wednesday, December 26 through Friday, December 29, the CCX, FCX, JFX and NU routes will not run.
The Chapel Hill Public Library will be closed from Saturday, December 23 through Monday, December 25.
Chapel Hill Parks and Recreation facilities, including the Community Center and Pool, Hargraves Center and Homestead Aquatics Center, will be closed December 24-26.

Town of Carrboro
Town of Carrboro offices will be closed from Friday, December 22 through Tuesday, December 26.
During the week before Christmas, residential trash will be collected one day prior to the regular collection day. For example, regular Wednesday service will be done on Tuesday, December 19. Yard waste will not be collected the week of Christmas. Recycling pick-up will be delayed by one day the week of Christmas.

Town of Hillsborough
Town offices will be closed on December 25 and 26.
Residents whose garbage is normally picked up on Mondays will receive service on Friday, December 22. Those whose garbage is normally picked up on Tuesdays will receive service on Wednesday, December 27.
Christmas trees may be placed curbside for brush collection, which will follow the same schedule as garbage collection. Trees must be removed from the stand and be free of decoration.
Orange County
The Orange County Public Library will be closed for Christmas from December 24 through December 27.
Orange County Public Transportation will not run from December 25 through December 27.
