The Town of Chapel Hill is offering residents an easy, efficient way of picking up trees and wreaths following the holidays.

The town reminded people on Thursday afternoon that trees and wreaths can be picked up during yard waste collection to be mulched beginning next week. Yard waste is collected on Thursdays from single-family residences on a Monday trash collection schedule and on Fridays from those with Tuesday trash collection.

In order for Chapel Hill to take trees and properly mulch them, the town is requesting residents to make sure there is nothing additional on the trees. Decorations, tinsel and wires should be completely removed for the collection team to pick up any trees with the yard waste.

The town tells residents of apartment complexes they should place trees and wreaths in the areas designated by property managers.

Unwanted Christmas lights can also be collected and recycled. Orange County’s Waste and Recycling Centers will be taking them at their electronic trailers to be properly disposed.

Trash and recycling schedules in Chapel Hill and the rest of Orange County will be affected by holiday hours for the next week.
