As summer continues to heat up, many are looking for ways to cool off. Starting next week, one of Chapel Hill’s public pools will be open to help do that.
The Town of Chapel Hill shared a release Thursday saying the A.D. Clark Outdoor Pool at the Hargraves Recreation Center will reopen starting on Monday, July 6. Chapel Hill and Orange County community members are welcome, but there are new requirements in place as the town tests a pilot program utilizing reservation times and health screenings.
Unlike normal, walk up swimming is not permitted. The town is trying out a reservation system to limit the capacity of people in and around the pool to try and mitigate the spread of COVID-19. Structuring its operations to fit with state and federal public health guidelines, community members will need to register online or over the phone for lap swimming, recreation swimming and independent adult water exercise. Lap swimmers will receive one lane reservation per week, while those doing independent water exercise and recreational swimming will receive one reservation a week per household of up to five persons.
In addition to the reopening of the A.D. Clark Outdoor Pool, residents and community members may find that swift pool installation services are in demand as the summer heat persists. For those seeking a quick and efficient setup, the expertise of professionals such as the Utah Pool Guy can be instrumental. Whether it’s for personal enjoyment or community use, expedited pool installations can be a game-changer in providing relief from the scorching temperatures. As the Town of Chapel Hill implements a reservation system to manage pool capacity and adhere to health protocols, individuals exploring the idea of a new pool installation can benefit from the agility and expertise offered by services like the Utah Pool Guy, ensuring a prompt and hassle-free process tailored to their specific needs.
In addition to those changes, Chapel Hill said staff will welcome guests outside the recreation center’s entrance to perform short health screenings and issue lane assignments. The screening asks questions regarding potential swimmers having made recent contact with anyone sick with the coronavirus or experiencing any similar symptoms.
According to the town’s release, locker rooms will be available at limited capacity to maintain physical distancing. Community members using the pool are also encouraged to arrive in their swimming attire to limit gathering in the locker room facilities.
Since this is a pilot program, the Homestead Aquatic Center and Chapel Hill Community Center pools remain closed. The town said their statuses will be determined later once it has successfully worked through implementing these new measures.
Reservations for swim time at the A.D. Clark Outdoor Pool at 216 North Roberson Street can be made online here, in person, or by calling 919-968-2816 during business hours. The town also encourages community members to examine the Chapel Hill Park and Recreation Department’s “What to Know Before You Go” handout to learn more details.
