There are several hurdles North Carolinians may face when it comes to receiving their COVID-19 vaccines, one of which being access to transportation. The Town of Chapel Hill, however, has enlisted part of its public transit service to help alleviate some of this difficulty.

Chapel Hill Transit will be providing service to two UNC Health vaccination clinics as well as the Orange County Health vaccination clinic at the RR lot.

GoTriangle’s 420 route will provide service to the UNC Health Vaccination clinic in Hillsborough. The other clinic, located at the Friday Center, can be reached by routes FCX, S and N as well as GoTriangle’s 800, 800S and 805 routes.

Chapel Hill Mayor Pam Hemminger recently spoke with 97.9 The Hill’s Brighton McConnell about the town’s efforts to give the people who want to be vaccinated a chance to do so.

“We want to be good partners in making sure the people who really need the vaccine, the most vulnerable, will have the same access rights as everyone else,” Hemminger said.

In January, Governor Roy Cooper said local transit agencies across the state would be receiving $2.5 million in COVID-19 relief funding to help residents get to their vaccination sites.
