The Town of Chapel Hill is holding several opportunities for community members to learn about and comment on planned updates to bicycle and pedestrian facilities along state-owned roads.

The town government shared a release with the community saying it will hold a virtual public meeting on Tuesday night to discuss the plans for updating its Mobility and Connectivity Plan. The changes come more than a year after the North Carolina Department of Transportation updated its Complete Streets policy meant to improve collaboration with towns on installing “evolving transportation technology options.”

To match its own plan with the state’s, the Town of Chapel Hill will be updating its own plan for the first time since 2017. Community members can register for Tuesday’s public hearing to learn more about the list of proposed changes along roads such as Fordham Boulevard, Ephesus Church Road, Rogers Road, East Franklin Street and more. Most include creating “protected bicycle lanes” and enhancing multi-use paths.

In addition to the public hearing, the town will also hold opportunities to chat with local government officials about the changes this week. A drop-in session is planned for Wednesday from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m., as well as Thursday from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Those interested in attending virtual drop-in sessions should email your interest in attending one of these sessions to Transportation Planning Manager Bergen Watterson. You may also submit comments via the online comment form through Friday, October 2.

Tuesday’s public hearing is slated to run from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
