Carrboro is holding a public hearing Tuesday night on three conceptual plans for the town’s future development at 203 South Greensboro Street.

The proposal, known as the 203 Project, calls for a new building to be constructed in place of the current surface-level parking lot. Carrboro and Orange County entered into a development agreement last fall calling for the southern branch of the Orange County Library to be located in the new building, in addition to The ArtsCenter and some town offices.

Documents show three plans will be presented to the Carrboro Board of Aldermen Tuesday night.

“They all have their pluses and minuses,” Lavelle said of the three proposals. “There’s a certain plan I think that has more pros than cons.”

Lavelle added that the entire board hasn’t discussed the plans in a formal setting but “any of the plans would be tremendously exciting.”

The town has held multiple public information meetings on the plans since June.

If the board stays on track with conceptual and architectural plans being approved, Lavelle said, officials could be breaking ground on the new building next August or September.

Tuesday’s Board of Aldermen meeting is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. in Carrboro Town Hall.
