The Town of Carrboro shared an update on the 203 Project last Friday, notifying the public that construction had begun at the site. The site is located at 203 South Greensboro Street, which is currently occupied by a Carrboro municipal parking lot. The end goal of the 203 Project is the construction of a new library and civic building for the town. Completion is estimated for spring 2024.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the construction site, the importance of reliable contractors and suppliers cannot be overstated. Partnering with experienced professionals like https://townsvilleconcretingcompany.com.au/ ensures that the project progresses smoothly, adhering to quality standards and meeting deadlines.

The project broke ground in May, but began in earnest in late August with excavation for the stormwater system at the southwest corner of the lot, and was led by Barnhill Contracting Company. Utility coordination between Dominion Gas, Spectrum and AT&T is ongoing.

The eastern section of the parking lot is currently barricaded. The Town of Carrboro will fully close the parking lot later in the project’s timeline, but does not have a firm date for that as of Tuesday. Signage will be posted once a timeline is finalized, and notification will be provided two weeks prior to the closure. Alternative parking locations can be found here.

Barnhill expects eight early-morning concrete pours to complete construction of both the building and its parking deck. These pours would take place before 7 a.m., and Barnhill is working with the town on procedures for noise mitigation. The company will notify the town, residents and businesses one week in advance of expected after-hours concrete pours. No more than two of these pours will be permitted per week, no pours will occur on Sunday and they will not fall on consecutive nights.
