UNC Health Care announced Thursday morning it has changed its name to simply UNC Health as part of a rebranding effort.

The state-owned health care system launched its new identity to reflect its approach and commitment to improving North Carolinians’ health, saying in a release the new name is symbolic to its strategy of transformational change. The announcement also revealed the new system’s logo and color scheme.

“UNC Health’s transformation strategy boldly defines our road map over the next five to 10 years,” said UNC Health CEO Dr. Wesley Burks in Thursday’s release. “One of the key changes that will position us well to achieve our strategic goals is a new operating model. This is our first major operating model change in decades, and provides us with a modernized and integrated approach to meeting our patients’ needs.”

The system, which is headquartered in Chapel Hill, shared a video on its official Twitter account Thursday morning to accompany the announcement.

“From a practical standpoint, the launch of UNC Health is an identify refresh, something the healthcare system hasn’t implemented in many years,” Chief Communications and Marketing Officer Lisa Schiller said in the release. “This refresh simplifies the system name and gives it a focused opportunity to ensure consistent, universal branding across the full organization.”

According to the healthcare system, its mission statement to improve the health and well-being of North Carolinians and its commitment to clinical and service excellence is seeing no change. It also said the 33,000 employees working for UNC Health will see no changes in how they care for patients.

In its release, the health system said it will be further changing the visual and messaging of its hospital and clinic locations across the state in the coming months.
