UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill was one of six UNC Health facilities across the state to be recognized in U.S. News & World Report’s 2026 list of Best Hospitals for Maternity Care.

The list named all six UNC Health hospitals as “high performing,” which is the highest award a hospital can earn as part of the annual study of best maternity care, which is now in its fifth iteration.

U.S. News & World Report began the study in 2021, rating hospitals which provide labor and delivery services. This year, approximately 900 hospitals nationwide submitted data for evaluation. Factors for consideration included C-section rates in lower-risk pregnancies, birthing-friendly practices and severe unexpected newborn complication rates.

“UNC Health is proud to help bring thousands of babies across our state into the world every year, and to be part of such an important and precious moment for parents,” said UNC Health CEO Dr. Cristy Page. “Our physicians and maternity care teams work hard to provide families with critical prenatal, labor and delivery, postpartum and pediatric care.”
