A fire at a golf course’s building for its golf carts drew a significant response Friday night by Pittsboro area emergency responders.

Both the Pittsboro Fire-Rescue team and the Siler City Fire Department shared posts on Facebook detailing a blaze at 1000 Chapel Ridge Drive in Pittsboro, which is part of the Golf Club at Chapel Ridge. At approximately 10:11 p.m. on Friday, Pittsboro Fire crews responded to a commercial structure fire call and found the golf club’s storage building for its carts heavily burning. Firefighters deployed blitz lines and began aerial master streams from ladder trucks to help bring the fire under control and prevent nearby parts of the golf course from catching fire.

According to Pittsboro Fire, no injuries were reported from the blaze, although the entire building and its contents were “deemed a total loss.” The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Chatham County Fire Marshall’s office.

As of Monday, the Golf Club at Chapel Ridge had tee times available to customers — but added a warning saying because of the fire, all tee times are walking only. The club is planning on having temporary carts for customers soon before replacing its lost vehicles.

In its Facebook post, the Pittsboro Fire-Rescue thanked its “Automatic Aid Partners” for their teamwork in responding to Friday’s fire. The North Chatham Fire Department, Silk Hope Volunteer Fire Department, and Siler City Fire Department and First Health all committed vehicles and emergency responders to the scene.

The fire is the latest in a string of recent, dramatic fires in the community at a time when the region and state are battling drought conditions. Lingering fire from a fire pit on the porch of a residence killed two people along Manns Chapel Road on April 11, and further north, Chapel Hill and Carrboro have experienced several structure fires in the last two months. The region was just released from both local and statewide burn bans set by officials over dry conditions — although the North Carolina Fire Service and Department of Agriculture encouraged residents to be diligent when burning and check fire danger beforehand.
