An apartment fire led to a quick response by the Carrboro Fire Department along North Carolina Highway 54 Friday afternoon.

According to a town release shared Saturday, Carrboro firefighters responded to a call of a structure fire around noon at the Berkshire 54 apartment complex, which is located at 112 North Carolina 54 Bypass. Upon arrival two minutes later, crews saw flames visible from one apartment unit and smoke visible in other units. Firefighters ultimately extinguished the fire in around ten minutes, according to the town.

No injuries were reported from the fire, but Carrboro Fire said two residents are displaced due to the damage caused by the flames and smoke. Saturday’s alert said fire damage was contained to one unit, while there was water damage suffered to an adjacent unit and three adjacent units suffered smoke damage — costing an estimated $75,000 in total damage. Both the Berkshire 54 property management group and the American Red Cross are helping with temporary housing and various needs for the displaced residents, according to Carrboro.

The cause of the fire is under investigation as of Saturday morning. Carrboro Fire said it received assistance from a variety of other local emergency services, including the Chapel Hill Fire Department, White Cross Fire Department, North Chatham Fire Department, Orange Grove Fire Department, New Hope Fire Department, Orange County Emergency Medical Services, and the Carrboro Police Department.
