A Chatham County teenager is being held on multiple charges after a truck and cattle trailer were stolen from a Bear Creek residence.

Authorities say the suspect wrecked the truck and trailer early Monday morning causing “significant damage” to the vehicle. Deputies were then alerted to a report of a suspicious person near Harpers Crossraods.

Deputies were able to match the subject of that call to the description of the driver of the stolen vehicle.

Authorities say 19-year-old Samuel Atlas Bennett, of Carthage, was charged with one count each of felony larceny of a motor vehicle and felony larceny. He is also facing charges of injury to personal property and injury to real property. Bennett’s bond was set at $7,500 secured bond and is set to appear in Chatham County District Court in Pittsboro on October 23.

There is no indication that any cattle was in the trailer at the time of the accident.
