The Orange County Sheriff’s Office says two Alamance County residents facing several felony counts in their jurisdiction were recently detained.
A release from the office on Thursday said 44-year-old Patrick Crisp and 25-year-old Jaquacey Smith are allegedly behind a string of convenience store burglaries from mid-September. Investigators with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office took out warrants against the pair last week, with authorities arresting the men separately a few days ago.
The various burglaries happened between September 12 and September 28, with the sheriff’s office describing the break-ins as mostly happening between midnight and 5:00 a.m. The suspects “used burglary tools to enter the front door of convenience stores,” said the release, and ultimately stole money and cigarettes. The Efland Supermarket, the PSM Mart on Highway 54 near White Cross, the BDS Mini-Mart off U.S. Highway 70-A, the Circle K near St. Mary’s Road, and the A to Z Quickie Mart on U.S. Highway 70 were among the convenience stores with reported break-ins.
Additionally, Orange County investigators are accusing Crisp and Smith of stealing a vehicle from the small business White Cross Auto Sales off Crawford Dairy Road, which the pair then used in a separate break-in case in Mebane.
As a result, the sheriff’s office is charging the two men with multiple counts of felony breaking and entering, felony larceny, damage to property and possession of burglary tools. In addition, Crisp faces Orange County charges in connection to stealing and possessing a motor vehicle.
Crips, who is a Haw River resident, entered the Orange County Detention Center on October 3 under a $160,000 bond, according to Thursday’s release. Smith, who is a Burlington resident, was arrested in Alamance County on October 5 and has a pending transfer to Orange County under a $70,000 bond. More charges from other jurisdictions are expected to be filed in coming days.
Orange County investigators said a third suspect participated in at least one of the break-ins with Crisp and Smith, although authorities are seeking more information to identify the person. The sheriff’s office encouraged anyone with information about the convenience store burglaries to contact Investigator Kyle Borland at 919-245-2915.
