A second employee from a Chapel Hill gas station is facing a felony charge for allegedly stealing lottery tickets.

The Chapel Hill Police Department served criminal summons to 33-year-old Luis Albert Mills of Chapel Hill on Thursday, April 30, on a charge of larceny by an employee.

The report for Mills is listed with an incident report filed by the Circle K gas station located at the corner of East Franklin Street and North Estes Drive. The gas station filed a police report on April 17, reporting more than $12,000 worth of scratch-off lottery tickets stolen. The incident was listed as larceny by an employee.

A spokesperson for the Chapel Hill Police Department said the investigation found the theft of lottery tickets happened over a period of time.

This is the second incident of lottery tickets being stolen from the Chapel Hill Circle K location. In March, the gas station reported nearly 500 lottery tickets as stolen. The police department served a criminal summons to Jacinta Renee Watson on April 17, with the value listed for those missing tickets as approximately $800.

Chapel Hill Police describe Mills’ charge as being a separate incident from Watson’s.

Mills has been given a court date of July 16 in Hillsborough for the lone charge.
