A carjacking incident on Franklin Street over the weekend has led to an investigation by the Chapel Hill Police Department.

A spokesperson for the department said a suspect successfully carjacked a vehicle in the parking lot of 1513 Franklin Street Sunday after 9 p.m. The address is for several apartment units close to the Chapel Hill Public Library.

Authorities said the same suspected approached a vehicle with a driver in it at the nearby intersection of Estes Drive and East Franklin Street minutes before. The driver sped off when the suspect approached, clipping another vehicle in its escape.

Durham Police found the stolen car on Monday. The Chapel Hill Police Department spokesperson said the occupants of the vehicle fled the scene and were not apprehended.

No information on the victims of either carjacking incident have been released.
