The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a man for an armed robbery incident last week near Hillsborough.

Adam Christopher Alston faces a robbery with a dangerous weapon charge, as well as a firearm by felon change for a crime on May 7 along Lannie Drive, a residential road near Interstate 85. Both charges are felony charges. Alston is being held on a $50,000 bond at the Orange County Detention Center.

According to investigators with the Sheriff’s Office, a man believed to be Alston flagged down a motorist while walking and asked for a ride. The motorist was then robbed at gunpoint, reporting $400 was taken. A spokesperson for the office said investigators received conflicting stories about how the victim and the suspect “came to be together, but not that [the victim] was ultimately robbed.”

Alston has multiple prior convictions, according to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, including a common law robbery and a robbery with a dangerous weapon charge in 2014.

Alston will appear in federal district court on Monday for the two charges.
