Durham Police captured an escaped Orange County inmate early Tuesday morning after he left a workplace release assignment on Monday night.

Robert Terrell, 42, was not seen after finishing a shift at his workplace on East Club Boulevard in Durham around 6 p.m. Police arrested Terrell around 2:20 a.m. on Tuesday at Cornwallis Road and South Roxboro Street in Durham. He was driving a car stolen from his mother.

Terrell will now face charges of escape and larceny of a vehicle. He was serving a six-and-a-half-year sentence as a habitual felon at the Orange Correctional Center. Prior to Monday, he was a minimum-security inmate and was scheduled for release in August 2020.
