Orange County authorities have arrested a Durham man on rape charges involving a minor.

Records show Ramsis Leonardo Rodriguez was taken into custody on Wednesday and charged with statutory rape or sex offense with a victim who was more than six years younger than the suspect and second-degree rape.

While Rodriguez is from Durham, authorities said the incident originated in Orange County.

Orange County Sheriff’s Office investigator Ashley Woodlief said the arrest of Rodriguez came after a “lengthy” investigation, which involved what the investigator described as several intricacies. Few details were available because the investigation is open and ongoing, according to Woodlief, but she added they hoped to have the investigation closed shortly.

There are no other suspects at this time and, Woodlief said, the investigation has focused on one victim at this point.

Records show Rodriguez is due to make his first appearance in Orange County Court on Thursday afternoon. He is currently being held in the Orange County detention center under a $750,000 secured bond. Officials said in an update on Thursday afternoon that his bond was lowered to $250,000 after the initial court appearance.

CORRECTION: This story initially stated the charge was for statutory rape of a victim less than six years old. That was incorrect and has been updated to show that the victim was more than six years younger than the suspect. We apologize for the error.
