An afternoon at the Waffle House in Hillsborough turned dramatic when a group of customers robbed the restaurant.

A release from the Hillsborough Police Department on Monday said that officers responded to a reported armed robbery at 110 Daniel Boone Street around 1:55 p.m. After speaking to witnesses, police said they learned a group of three people ordered food before a male suspect presented a firearm. According to police, he then demanded a restaurant employee give him money from the cash register. Witnesses told police the trio of suspects fled the scene in two vehicles after being given the cash.

The lone description provided by Hillsborough Police of the suspects was one Black man and two Black women. Investigators said one of the vehicles was described as a silver sedan, while the other was a burgundy Ford F-150 truck with Texas license plates. Police said both of the vehicles were last seen traveling northbound on Interstate 85 — which has on-ramps just a block away from Daniel Boone Street.

Police are asking anyone with information about the armed robbery to contact Hillsborough Investigator Van St. Pierre. He can be reached by email or phone at 919-296-9533.
