UPDATE: The Orange County Sheriff’s Department said Monday, February 8, deputies took Horne to the detention center on his charges. He is scheduled to appear in court Monday afternoon.

A Hillsborough man was apprehended on Friday in connection to a vehicle theft, high speed chase and self-inflicted crash.

Investigators from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office apprehended Cameron Horne, 32, who was wanted in connection to a vehicle burglary late Thursday night.

Officials report that Horne broke into an occupied residence in Cedar Grove at approximately 11:00 p.m. and left with three sets of keys, a pair of boots and a 2004 yellow Jeep Wrangler.

Friday afternoon, investigators saw the stolen vehicle, driven by Horne, on Highway 70 near St Mary’s Road.

According to the report, when law enforcement attempted to stop the Jeep, Horne fled the scene at “a high rate of speed” and lost control of the vehicle about two miles away, flipping the Jeep onto its side and knocking over a stop sign.

EMS has since transported Horne to UNC Hospital in Hillsborough for observation. A deputy is standing by, waiting to take Horne into custody upon his discharge.

Horne faces the following charges: first degree burglary, larceny after breaking and entering, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle and felony flee to elude.

Anyone with any additional information about this incident is asked to call Investigator Nazworth at (919) 245-2960.
