The Chapel Hill Fire Department is investigating a fatal house fire that took place in the early hours of Thursday morning.

A release from the town government said firefighters responded at 1:37 a.m. to reports of a fire along Rogerson Drive — a residential road off North Carolina Highway 54. Upon arrival, crews found one home engulfed in flames and one person dead. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

No other injuries were reported from the fire, according to a Chapel Hill Fire spokesperson. The name of the victim is being withheld until proper identification and family members are contacted.

As of early Thursday morning, Rogerson Drive was closed between Cleland Drive and Douglas Road as part of Chapel Hill Fire’s response.
