The Chapel Hill Police Department released a statement Wednesday saying authorities want to speak with two men captured from surveillance cameras who might have seen an alleged sexual assault in the parking deck of Shortbread Lofts.

The two men pictured here are believed to be witnesses to an incident that took place in the early morning of Friday, September 13. They were walking westbound on Franklin Street near Mellow Mushroom around 2:40 a.m.
“These men are not suspected of any crime, and are viewed as potentially important witnesses,” Chapel Hill Police officials said in the release.
Police have previously described the suspect in the alleged assault as a black male, wearing dark clothing and estimated to be 5 feet 8 inches tall. CHPD have also released security footage they hope to identify.
CHPD urges anyone who knows these two men to contact Sgt. Britt with the Criminal Investigations Division at (919) 969-2001. Anyone with additional information regarding the alleged assault is asked to call Chapel Hill Police at (919) 968-2760 or 911. Calls can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (919) 942-7515, where calls are confidential and anonymous.
