UPDATE: Chapel Hill Police said the stolen pickup truck was located in Durham on Monday afternoon, near the area of Duke Street and Morehead Avenue. The vehicle was unoccupied and authorities are still searching for the suspect. No additional information has been made available as of Monday afternoon.

A carjacking outside of a popular Chapel Hill restaurant on Monday morning led to one of its branded vehicles being taken — and now police are asking the public for help.

A release from the Chapel Hill Police Department detailed the incident, which took place around 8 a.m. outside of Breadman’s at 261 South Elliott Road. According to investigations, a Breadman’s employee saw a man stealing from a Breadman’s branded pickup truck. When the employee confronted the suspect, the person fired a gunshot and the left the area in the truck. Chapel Hill Police said no one has reported injuries from the gunshot.

The public is asked to call 911 if the vehicle is spotted. Police described the truck as a silver 2021 Chevrolet Silverado with the North Carolina license plate of JFC-4180. There are decals on the truck’s back windows with the Breadman’s logo and a custom license plate on the front. Police urged anyone who sees the truck to not approach it.

Additionally, Monday’s release said anyone who may have further information about the incident or possible suspects is encouraged to call 911 or contact the Chapel Hill Police Department at 919-968-2760.
