The Chapel Hill Police Department aided in finding a stolen vehicle from Battleboro, North Carolina, on early Sunday morning.

A release from the department said at around 3:30 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of Melville Loop over a report of someone “pulling on a vehicle’s door handle.” Upon arriving to the road, which is part of the Sagebrook of Chapel Hill apartment community, they found and detained a suspect at the scene.

Chapel Hill Police said Kasai Tyvon Moss-Holloway, a 19-year-old Durham resident, was in possession of the stolen vehicle from Rocky Mount, as well as a stolen handgun. Moss-Holloway was arrested on corresponding charges for those possessions, as well as charges of attempting breaking and entering into a vehicle and resisting officers.

According to Sunday’s release, Moss-Holloway was transported to the Orange County Detention Center and held under a $1,500 bond. By Sunday afternoon, the Durham resident was no longer listed by the sheriff’s office as in custody.

The Chapel Hill Police Department used the incident to remind community members on Sunday to always lock cars, whether when in public or at home, and to keep firearms or valuables from being unattended in vehicles.
