The Chapel Hill Police Department is searching for a suspect after a resident claims they were assaulted at their front door during the early hours of Monday morning.
A release from the department said investigators are trying to identify a man who allegedly assaulted the victim in the 5000 block of Old Chapel Hill Road around 6:14 a.m. The community is technically in Durham, but on the border of Town of Chapel Hill limits.
According to police, the suspect ran off from the front door after the victim fought back. The woman is “recovering from non-life-threatening injuries,” said the release, and is not believed to have known the attacker.

Chapel Hill Police said the suspect is described as a Black man between 5 feet 6 inches and 5 feet 8 inches tall with a black and gray beard. At the time of the incident, they were described as wearing baggy clothing, including jeans and a beanie.
