The Chapel Hill Police Department is investigating a reported assault from the early morning hours of Wednesday.
A release from the Town of Chapel Hill said officers responded to reports of an assault around 2:30 a.m. A female victim was walking near the 500 block of North Columbia Street and told police officers she had previously left the area of East Franklin Street and North Columbia Street. The police department said no additional information on the incident is available at this time, but reported officers are working to gather details on a suspect or suspects.
UNC shared an Alert Carolina message shortly after 7:30 a.m. on Wednesday to flag the incident for its campus community.
Anyone who may have information on the assault or activity around North Columbia Street from early Wednesday morning is encouraged to contact the Chapel Hill Police Department at 919-968-2760 during business hours. Community members can also call 911 with information or call the Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC Crimestoppers hotline at 919-942-7515 if they wish to remain anonymous.
Chapel Hill Police said Wednesday any information that leads to an arrest in the case could be eligible for a reward up to $2,000.
