The suspect in a December hit and run case that left a bicyclist severely injured turned themselves into police on Monday.
Chapel Hill Police served Tara Holste of Chatham County with criminal summons for her involvement in a collision with a young bicyclist on December 17, 2020, near Homestead Drive. Holste, 46, is charged with felony hit and run.
The department reported in December the victim, later revealed to be an East Chapel Hill High School student, was riding a bicycle at the time of the incident. They were discovered on Homestead Road near Aquatic Drive at 7:29 p.m. and taken to UNC Hospitals.
According to the police on Tuesday, the victim is still recovering from the injuries sustained in the collision. Following the collision, the Chapel Hill community raised more than $100,000 to help cover medical and travel expenses.
Holste is set to have her first appearance in court on the charges on Monday, March 22.
