Chapel Hill Police Department arrested a resident following a domestic violence incident earlier in the month.

Authorities charged Dmar Donnell Alston, 29, with felony assault, felony stalking and felony breaking and entering on Thursday. In addition, Alston was also charged with damage to personal property, interference with emergency communications and violation of a domestic violence protective order.

According to a spokesperson for Chapel Hill Police, a former partner of Alston’s had filed for a domestic violence protection order following a similar incident on January 2, one which led to Alston receiving a breaking and entering charge. On January 14, as the victim was leaving her residence for work, she went back inside and found Alston, who had broken in.

Alston took the victim’s phone as she attempted to call police and proceeded hit her. Authorities said the victim attempted to alert neighbors by banging on her residence’s windows. Eventually, the victim ran outside and received assistance from a neighbor. Police arrested Alston on Thursday evening at 861 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.

The Chapel Hill Police Department spokesperson said the felony stalking charges to the violation of the domestic violence protection order.

Alston is being held without bond at the Orange County Jail for 48 hours since his arrest. His first court appearance on the charges was Friday morning.
