The Carrboro Police Department is investigating a sexual assault reported along Jones Ferry Road during the early morning hours of Wednesday.
A release from the department said around 12:05 a.m., a jogger running near the Willow Creek Shopping Center was approached from behind by a suspect. Police said the person then threw the victim on the ground and began sexually assaulting her.
Authorities arrived after “a bystander in the area heard the victim screaming and called 911,” according to the Carrboro Police Department. The suspect then fled the scene on foot in the direction of Poplar Place Apartments, which are located at 605 Jones Ferry Road. Police said the victim was taken to UNC Hospitals for treatment.
The suspect is described as a Black male with a medium build and around 6 feet tall. Wednesday’s release said the person had “a dark complexion,” was clean shaven and was possibly in his mid-30’s.
The Carrboro Police Department is asking with anyone who may have information to aid the ongoing investigation to contact Investigator Trey Kennedy at 919-918-7412.
