Two teenagers have been arrested after a string of vehicle break-ins in Orange County.

Officials said Monday that Durham Police had arrested 18-year-old Isaiah Patterson and 17-year-old Desean Monroe. Both were charged with 11 counts of breaking and entering a motor vehicle and four counts of misdemeanor larceny.

The break-ins occurred at Heritage Apartments and Elfin Pond – two communities off of Orange Grove Road just north of I-85. Authorities said the incidents occurred on February 24 and warrants were taken out on March 1 after video footage helped identify the suspects.

Officials said the Hillsborough Police Department and Orange County Sheriff’s Office conducted the joint investigation and that the arrests were carried out by Durham Police.

Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood reiterated the need to secure valuables.

“These individuals targeted unlocked vehicles,” Blackwood said in a release. “It is important for folks to secure their belongings and lock their vehicles to avoid being the victims of this type of opportunistic crime. This is especially important in densely populated residential areas such as subdivisions and apartment complexes.”

Patterson is being held under a $20,000 secured bond and Monroe on a $10,000 secured bond, according to law enforcement.

Anyone with more information regarding the break-ins is asked to call the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at (919) 245-2900.
