Durham Technical Community College will make a decision on whether fall 2020 courses will be held in-person or virtual formats on July 24.
Currently, all summer courses at Durham Tech are being held online. But according to an email from school leadership to staff on Thursday, fall courses are currently planned for seated, hybrid and online formats. But the message said the ongoing coronavirus outbreak will ultimately determine whether the school goes entirely virtual for the Fall 2020 semester.
Leaders said to staff if students cannot return to campus due to the pandemic by July 24, classes will be converted to online or limited-hybrid formats to allow courses to start and finish without significant delays.
Durham Tech joins UNC in putting together tentative plans for students to return to campus in the fall. UNC Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz said the university is planning on students to return to campus for the fall semester, a sentiment that was later echoed by UNC System interim president Bill Roper.
“As we end this semester,” Guskiewicz wrote on Twitter, “we are planning for the fall. We are hoping to return in mid-August but we are planning for many different scenarios.”
Durham Tech closed all campuses on March 16.
