****UPDATE: On Sunday afternoon, Durham Technical Community College informed students and staff all classes would be canceled for the week of March 16 and all campuses would be closed effective immediately. Remote instruction for courses will begin on Monday, March 30.****
Durham Technical Community College will soon be transitioning to digital teaching methods in an effort to mitigate the ongoing spread of the novel coronavirus.
The college announced the measure to its staff in an email on Saturday, saying it will not hold seated classes the week of March 16 before moving to largely online instruction starting Monday, March 23.
For the week of March 16, mini semester courses, online courses and Basic Skills classes will meet as scheduled. Faculty and staff will be provided resources and support through the week as they transition to fully online courses and services.
The college said while it is requesting students to limit their visits to campus as much as possible, it is keeping all campuses open and operational to allow access to resources like computer labs and libraries.
“We will continue to monitor and reevaluate the progression of COVID-19 and will announce an update on the continuation of remote instruction by April 5,” said the email.
Durham Tech has established a web page specifically to convey further information to its community about its response to the novel coronavirus. For more details on the upcoming changes in instruction, visit the website.
