After nine years on Franklin Street, R&R Grill will be closing next week.
Restaurant officials said in a Facebook post that Mother’s Day Sunday, May 13, would be the restaurants last day.
“We’re proud of what we’ve done, but it is time for us to move on to the next thing,” the post read, although it did not say what that next thing would be.
The closing is “bittersweet,” management wrote in the post, “we will miss being a part of the Chapel Hill community, and most of all we’ll miss you guys.”
Other prominent Franklin Street locations have closed in one form or another in recent weeks. Spanky’s, which has been operating at the corner of Franklin and Columbia streets for more than 40 years is “retiring.” Chapel Hill Restaurant Group ownership announced last week that a new concept known as Lula’s and serving Southern food would be occupying that space. The Cave – the bar and music venue that has been on Franklin Street for more than 50 years – also closed its doors on Monday.
There is no official word on what is going into the space formerly home to The Cave or R&R Grill.
