At long last, Chapel Hill residents and visitors have an official date for when they’ll be able to get Raising Cane’s chicken on Franklin Street.
The Chapel Hill location of the popular chain restaurant, which is known for its chicken fingers, is set to open its doors on Tuesday, November 7 according to its business listing on Google and a post from one of its managers.
Jeremy Strayhorn, who is running the franchise, posted on X — the platform previously known as Twitter — confirming the opening and its time. He’d previously teased it by sharing several photos showing a redesigned interior and many Carolina-themed decorations on October 2.

The business listing for Raising Cane’s franchise in Chapel Hill, showing a planned opening date of November 7.

The façade of Raising Cane’s was covered with scaffolding and boarded-up windows for several months, as seen here in May 2023.
The restaurant’s opening follows an extensive renovation, which began at the corner business space in April 2022 a few months after the initial report of Raising Cane’s coming to Chapel Hill. The Louisiana-based chain specializes in simple chicken finger combo meals and is also known for its yellow-lab mascot, for whom the original restaurant was named after. With the East Franklin Street location, Chapel Hill will have the restaurant’s first location in the Triangle and it joins just two others open in the state.
The business that previously existed in 101 East Franklin Street also branded itself as a fried chicken restaurant. Lula’s opened in 2018, but shuttered its doors during 2020 with other Chapel Hill restaurants affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. Prior to that, patrons knew the space as the longtime home of Spanky’s Restaurant — which opened in 1977.
Hours for the Raising Cane’s in Chapel Hill are not yet set on the website, but other college towns and franchises are open from 10 a.m. until late at night. The opening day celebration, however, is set for 9 a.m. on November 7.

Chicken fingers? It’s a restaurant for eight-year-old children?
trash
A new spot for the homeless to congregate
The problem with downtown is so many chain restaurants. Makes downtown very boring and the food is all awful. Why go there? Rent too high for local businesses. I get depressed just driving through the downtown.
Why would you be running an article from mid October, when it’s now 3 months later?
