October is set to continue a year of various 50th anniversary celebrations for The ArtsCenter, a popular arts education nonprofit in Carrboro, as several local businesses are pledging their support through a new fundraiser.

The ArtsCenter shared a release on Tuesday announcing a lineup of restaurants and bars participating in “Artstober” to help raise money for and spread awareness of its operations. Eleven different Carrboro businesses will share 10 percent of their proceeds from lunch, dinner or drinks on their specific day with the nonprofit. The stretch of donation days begin on Oct. 5 with Carrburritos and end on Oct. 29 with Tesoro.

The full schedule of participating businesses is:

“As we reflect on our 50 years in downtown Carrboro, we are especially grateful for the ongoing partnership we hold with the local businesses and especially the restaurants and bars,” ArtsCenter Executive Director Wendy Smith said in the release. “The magic sauce of every local business, be it an arts center or a restaurant, is our shared mission to provide experiences that are relevant to the community in which we all live. Carrboro defines itself as a creative community and this is reflected in the unique offerings delivered by our local eateries. We appreciate this group effort to rally for The ArtsCenter, bringing awareness to both our value and our need.”

“One of the many things that makes Carrboro unique is arts and music destinations like The ArtsCenter,” said Glasshalfull owner Jim Wald. “We love what they bring to the community and are proud to do our part in supporting them.”

August marked 50 years since The ArtsCenter first opened along East Main Street, and the nonprofit held a celebration to honor its founder, showcase its newest home, and return its recognizable angel statue to the rooftop. Over the course of its existence in Carrboro, thousands of people have gone through its art classes and youth programs or attended events and performances put on to promote creativity and teach artistic skills. The 400 Roberson Street location, which opened in 2023, represented the latest leap forward for The ArtsCenter and the nonprofit’s release said donations during “Artstober” will help its programs keep “thriving” there.
