A vacated space within the East 54 shopping center in Chapel Hill will not stay unused for very long.
Bottle Rev Chapel Hill, the local location of the Raleigh-based bottle shop, will be moving to fill the space left by Tobacco Road Sports Cafe within the area off Raleigh Road. In addition, the shop and taproom will rebrand to become Old East Tavern and serve food.
The business confirmed the move in a statement to Chapelboro on Thursday, saying owners Julie Paddison and Lew Hendricks plan to be operational in their new location by early 2021. It’s a short trip for Bottle Rev, since the shop is transitioning from 3130 Environ Way to 1118 Environ Way. The space became available after Tobacco Road announced it would be closing the Chapel Hill location due to financial constraints amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
The bottle shop will still exist within the restaurant, according to the owners.
Along with the move to a larger location and rebranding, Old East Tavern is bringing on Josh Coburn to be its Executive Chef to curate its menu. Coburn recently worked as the Executive Chef of City Kitchen, a Chapel Hill restaurant in University Place, before its recent closure.
Owners said updates on the bottle shop’s rebrand and progress of its move will be shared on the Bottle Rev Chapel Hill Facebook page.
Bottle Rev Chapel Hill initially opened in East 54 in 2017.
