Following his team’s 48-20 blowout win over Georgia Tech last Saturday, UNC head football coach Larry Fedora told reporters his team is playing as well as they have all year.

His comment was backed up in this week’s edition of the AP Top 25, as the Tar Heels moved up three spots to No. 15.

It’s the highest UNC has been ranked all season, with its preseason ranking of No. 17 being the team’s previous top spot.

Despite being behind Virginia Tech in both the Coastal Division and the College Football Playoff rankings, the AP still ranks the Tar Heels ahead of the Hokies–which check in this week at No. 18.

Clemson (No. 3), Louisville (No. 5) and Florida State (No. 20) are the rest of the ACC’s five ranked schools.

For the second straight week, the ACC, SEC and Big Ten each are in a three-way tie with five teams amongst the polls.

Looking ahead to the rest of the season, UNC has no ranked opponents left on its schedule–just a pair of rivalry games with Duke and NC State, as well as a home game against FCS opponent The Citadel.

With this in mind, the odds are high that the Tar Heels will continue to rise in the rankings should they keep up the level of play that Fedora insists they’re playing at right now.
