Terrence Brown, who spent the 2025-26 season with Utah, committed to head coach Michael Malone and UNC out of the transfer portal on Tuesday.

Brown, who will have one season of eligibility remaining, first made the announcement through On3’s Joe Tipton before sharing his own commitment post.

Brown’s commitment comes after the 6-foot-3 guard from Minneapolis visited Chapel Hill on Monday, Apr. 13 and Tuesday, Apr. 14. A rising senior, Brown spent the first two seasons of his collegiate career with Fairleigh Dickinson in the Northeast Conference. He inherited a prominent role as a true freshman, starting 17 games while averaging 21.8 minutes and 7.8 points per game for the Knights. His productivity exploded his sophomore season, as Brown led the NEC in minutes (34.6 per game), scoring (20.6 points per game) and steals (2.2 points per game). He also averaged 5.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists per game, earning him a spot on the All-NEC First Team.

Brown transferred to Utah prior to the 2025-26 season and remained a productive player. He averaged 19.9 points per game, increased his assists to 3.8 per game and lowered his turnovers from 3.3 per game as sophomore to 2.4 per game as a junior.

Though Brown has never been an elite three-point shooter, his efficiency has improved every year of his collegiate career: 25.0 percent as a freshman, 29.6 percent as a sophomore and 32.7 percent as a junior. Despite his relatively pedestrian numbers from outside, Brown still commands a heavy load on offense: as a sophomore at FDU, he took more than 16 field goal attempts per game. That number dipped slightly at Utah, but Brown was still the Utes’ leading shot-taker with 15.4 attempts per game. For comparison, Caleb Wilson finished as UNC’s leading shot-taker in the 2025-26 season with 12.3 attempts per game.

Brown is the second player to commit to UNC out of the transfer portal during the 2026 cycle, joining Virginia Tech’s Neoklis Avdalas. Brown’s commitment comes as several Tar Heels have entered the portal themselves, including starting point guards Kyan Evans and Derek Dixon. You can read the full list here.
