Patricia Oliver of Chapel Hill won a $226,671 prize off of a $1 Cash 5 lottery ticket on Sunday. She claimed her prize – which, after required federal and state taxes, comes to $162,070 – at lottery headquarters on Thursday.
Oliver bought her ticket using Online Play. The North Carolina Education Lottery estimates the odds of buying the lucky ticket to be 1-in-962,598.

Cash 5 is one of six lottery games in North Carolina where players can either buy tickets at a retail location or online as Oliver did. Online tickets can be bought through the lottery’s website or with the North Carolina Lottery app. Friday’s jackpot currently sits at $120,000.
Ticket sales for Cash 5 and other games raised more than $1 billion for education in the state of North Carolina, with nearly $8 million of that going to programs in Orange County.
