The UNC men’s soccer team used four goals in the final 38 minutes of game time to earn its second consecutive road win Monday night, a 4-1 win at VCU. Carolina’s two road wins on the young season already match its total from all of 2022.

Seton Hall transfer Quenzi Huerman earned himself a brace by scoring his third and fourth goals of the season in a span of 8:33 early in the second half (Huerman scored in the match against American in Chapel Hill that was eventually called due to weather – so the goal doesn’t officially count on his season total). Huerman’s second goal of the night came just 2:01 after the Rams had equalized at 1-1.

Martin Vician and Ernest Bawa then provided insurance in a span of less than four minutes late in the half, putting the match on ice and sealing UNC’s first four-goal game since 2021, and its first such game on the road since 2018. It was the first goal as a Tar Heel for Vician, a graduate transfer from Harvard.

Carolina totaled 24 shots on the night and nine shots on goal. The Rams had their chances, forcing five saves from the UNC goalkeeping tandem of Collin Travasos and Quinn Closson. Travasos started the match in net, but was subbed off after just 15 minutes.

The Tar Heels are now 2-0-1 and will stay in the state of Virginia for their next match, the ACC opener at Virginia Tech. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday night.
