Carolina had no trouble with visiting Memphis at Dorrance Field Tuesday night, defeating the Tigers 3-0. It was UNC’s largest win this season and first in its last four matches.
Nacho Abeal and Gabriel Bracken Serra teamed up for Carolina’s first two goals of the night. In the 23rd minute, Abeal tucked home a pass from Serra to open the scoring and earn the third goal of the season for the Spaniard. The roles were reversed in the 60th minute, with Serra this time scoring off an Abeal assist. The duo of Abeal and Serra have scored five of Carolina’s 11 total goals this season.
Riley Berge provided a capper in the 86th minute, scoring his first goal in four seasons as a Tar Heel.
Overall, UNC outshot the Tigers 21-1, saving Memphis’ only shot on target to record the team’s third shutout of the season. Carolina is 4-0-1 at Dorrance Field in 2025.
The match marked just the second time in seven matches this season UNC has scored three goals. The Tar Heels had scored just one total goal in their last three matches before Tuesday, during which time UNC had drawn twice and lost once.
Carolina is now 4-1-2 overall this season. Up next, UNC will host SMU at Dorrance Field in the two programs’ first meeting as ACC foes. Kickoff against the Mustangs is scheduled for Saturday, September 20 at 7 p.m.
