Orange County expects an impending facilities construction project to affect government services at the Southern Human Services Center in Chapel Hill, according to a release sent out on Thursday afternoon.
The county government says construction in the area will begin on Monday, November 7 and last for approximately four months. The Health, Housing and Social Services departments are all expected to be affected.
During the construction, the county health department’s medical clinic at the Southern Human Services Center will be closed. All in-person medical, laboratory and communicable disease appointments will temporarily take place at the health department’s medical clinic, which is located in the Whitted Human Services Building at 300 West Tryon Street in Hillsborough.
The COVID-19 testing and vaccine clinic in the Southern Human Services Center will not be affected during the first phase of construction. The Mobile Dental Clinic, which operates in the center’s parking lot, will continue to see patients as well. Orange County indicates the planned Veterans Day ceremony on November 11 at the nearby Veterans Memorial will also continue as planned.
The housing department will remain open and on its regular schedule, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Helpline services are available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The social services department will also remain open on its regular schedule, which is the same as the housing department’s.
The Southern Human Services Center is located at 2501 Homestead Road in Chapel Hill.
