UNC junior golfer Austin Greaser completed his second round of play at The Masters in Augusta, GA, Friday afternoon, and while Greaser missed the 36-hole cut at 7-over par, he still tied for the lowest score among the six amateurs in the field.

Greaser’s best sequence of play Friday came when he birdied the eighth and ninth holes for the second consecutive day. He shot even par on the front nine of the course, but once again struggled on the back nine, shooting a 5-over 41.

Still, Greaser finished around some of the game’s most well-known golfers, as major champions Justin Rose, Gary Woodland and Bryson DeChambeau all finished behind him on the final leaderboard and missed the cut as well. Greaser beat DeChambeau by five strokes. Tied with Greaser were former British Open champion Stewart Cink and Olympic gold medalist Xander Schauffele, while Jordan Spieth and Brooks Koepka finished just one stroke ahead. Each also missed the cut.

Greaser will return to the professional tour later this summer, as he is also guaranteed a spot in June’s U.S. Open in Brookline, MA, due to his runner-up finish in the U.S. Amateur Championship last August. For now, Greaser will rejoin the UNC men’s golf team for its next event: the Arizona State Thunderbird Collegiate in Phoenix next weekend.
