Armando Bacot Named ACC Player of the Week

Following two career games and a historic double-double against Virginia, UNC junior forward Armando Bacot has been named ACC Player of the Week.

Against Notre Dame Wednesday, Bacot scored 21 points and grabbed a career-high 17 rebounds. That career-high lasted just three days, as Saturday against Virginia Bacot was even better, pouring in 29 points and grabbing 22 boards. He’s the first Tar Heel to record a 20-20 stat line since Brice Johnson, the first Tar Heel to do so in the Smith Center since Sean May, and the first opponent to do so against Virginia since Hall of Famer Tim Duncan. Quite the company for the All-ACC candidate.

For the season, Bacot’s field goal percentage of 64.2 leads the ACC, and he is second in the country in double-doubles with 11. He’s recorded a double-double in six consecutive games. Bacot is also one of just three players in the country to rank in the top 10 in double-doubles, field goal percentage and rebounding (11.2 per game).

This is the first time Bacot has ever won ACC Player of the Week honors. He is the first Tar Heel to do so since Cole Anthony during the 2019-20 season.

Bacot and the Tar Heels will be back in action Saturday at 8 p.m. when Georgia Tech visits the Smith Center. In the first meeting between the two teams this season, Bacot scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in a 79-62 Carolina victory.
