UNC graduate forward Brady Manek was named ACC Player of the Week for the first time this season Monday afternoon. Manek averaged 21 points per game in Carolina’s two wins last week over Syracuse and Duke.
Manek scored a team-high 22 points in Monday night’s overtime win against the Orange. Manek was also celebrating his Senior Day in what was his last home game in his lone season as a Tar Heel. He played 43 of a possible 45 minutes in the game, while shooting 9-18 from the field and 3-6 from three-point range.
He was one of four Tar Heels to score 20 points against Duke on Saturday, with an even 20 in a full 40 minutes of action in Cameron Indoor Stadium. Manek accounted for five of Carolina’s nine three-pointers on the night, shooting 5-10 from deep. He also added 11 rebounds to secure his third double-double of the season, and was brought to tears after the emotional victory.
Manek is the second Tar Heel to be named ACC Player of the Week this season, joining Armando Bacot. He and the rest of the Tar Heels will begin play in the ACC Tournament Thursday night in Brooklyn, taking on either No. 14 seed Georgia Tech, No. 11 Louisville or No. 6 seed Virginia.
