The Carrboro Police Department recently identified and charged four suspects for an attempted murder from earlier in August.

The department shared a release Monday morning saying four suspects now face charges for the shooting incident on August 2, which occurred outside the Wendy’s restaurant on 100 South Greensboro Street in downtown Carrboro. The incident injured three people, as a vehicle entered the parking lot and fired upon another vehicle attempting to leave. At the time, Carrboro police officers said between 20 and 25 shots were fired, with some bullets striking the Wendy’s building, surrounding vehicles and the restaurant’s dumpster.

All four suspect identified during the subsequent investigation are under the age of 18, according to the police department, meaning no identifying information will be released. Monday’s release said one suspect was 17 years old at the time of the shooting, while the other three were 16 years old.

Juvenile petitions were taken out for all four suspects and each are charged with attempted 1st degree murder, conspiracy to commit 1st degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and other charges for firing a gun while in an occupied vehicle.

Carrboro Police said three of the suspects are being held in juvenile detention facilities on charges unrelated to the August 2 shooting, while a fourth will be taken into custody by Juvenile Justice to be confined in juvenile detention as well.

The department’s release thanked the Mebane Police Department, Burlington Police Department and Alamance County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance on the investigation.
